Insider: Hotel Formentor Reportedly Outlining New Beach Layout

As preparations for the upcoming summer season begin at the northern end of the peninsula, details are emerging regarding a new logistical approach to the shoreline at the Hotel Formentor. According to an unnamed source with knowledge of the hotel’s internal planning, management is currently drafting a revised layout for the beach’s sun lounger service.

The report suggests that the strategy will focus on a more structured “segmentation” of the beach area, specifically aimed at organizing designated zones, each to serve either the exclusive high-net-worth hotel guests or the general public.

Proposed Distribution and Layout

Following observations from the previous year—where the use of branded towels on various loungers became a point of discussion among beachgoers—the new proposal seeks to create a more formal arrangement for the different demographics of beach users.

According to our source, the proposed plan involves a significant stretch of the coastline. Internal discussions have reportedly centered on managing the distribution of loungers and services from the L’Espigó restaurant area through to the private jetty located near the hotel’s main grounds. This proposed stretch of the beach is to accommodate exclusively the hotel guests.

Organization of Public and Private Services

The goal of this new layout, according to the disclosure, is to define the beach experience for both local visitors and international guests. The project reportedly focuses on:

Designated Zones: Creating specific areas where loungers are categorized to serve either the resort’s high-net-worth clientele or visiting members of the public.

Service Continuity: Organizing the stretch between L’Espigó and the jetty to ensure a managed flow and consistent service levels during the high-occupancy summer peak.

Status-Based Allocation: Implementing a system to manage lounger availability based on the specific designation of the zone.

Statutory Context

As with all seaside developments in the Balearics, these internal proposals remain subject to the Spanish Coastal Law (Ley de Costas). This legislation ensures that while hotels and businesses can apply for concessions to manage seasonal services like sun loungers, the beach itself remains a public space
