Solving the Summer Squeeze
As we head toward the peak summer months, anyone who has tried to navigate Pollensa’s historic center knows that finding a parking spot can feel like a feat of luck rather than planning. With narrow cobblestone streets and a massive influx of visitors, the townhall is now considering a bold new strategy to ensure that those who live here aren’t left circling the block.
DNI-Linked Priority Parking
In a move to balance the needs of the community with our vital tourism sector, the townhall is in talks to designate specific parking zones for locals within the car parks on the outskirts of town. The proposed system would link available spaces directly to DNI numbers (National Identity Documents), effectively guaranteeing a spot for residents even during the busiest weeks of August.
This “Residents First” approach aims to solve two problems at once:
- For Locals: It provides the peace of mind that a spot is waiting for them without needing to enter the congested town center.
- For Tourists: By moving local vehicles to dedicated peripheral zones, more central spaces are freed up for visitors. This is especially important for tourists navigating to their rental properties, as uncertainty over where to park often leads to unnecessary traffic and “logistical nightmares” in the heart of town.

Expanding the Outskirts
Currently, major parking areas are situated around the town’s perimeter. To support the new priority parking initiative, the townhall is also in active negotiations to acquire more land for parking expansion. A key area currently under discussion is located on the outskirts near the Costa i Llobera primary school. Securing this land would significantly increase the available “buffer zone” for vehicles, keeping the picturesque town center walkable and stress-free for everyone.

By guaranteeing locals a place to park and easing the way for our visiting guests, the townhall hopes to ensure that Pollensa remains as welcoming as it is beautiful—no matter how high the numbers on the thermometer or the tourist count may climb.
